This pamphlet is intended to present such a summary of the information, given by different writers, respecting the Red River, Hudson's Bay and North-West Territories, arranged under their natural geographical divisions, as may be sufficient to give a general view of their character and comparative value to Canada.

It will be seen by the Table of Contents that I have endeavoured to present a practical view of the reasons why we require these Territories, or part of them; also, of our means of maintaining communication with them, and of the comparative superiority of the routes through our own Territory as highways for the future commerce of the interior, and for communication with the Pacific Provinces.
