It was with a view of removing misconceptions and vindicating the doctrine from the more spe cions of the common objections urged against it, that the following discourses were written. This, it is hoped, will be kept in rnind by those into whose hands the book may fall. Had the author proposed a formal discussion of the doctrine itself, the whole frame-work of the argument would of course have been different, and the scriptural proofs of Election would have been cited in due form.
