His holy word. Equally far from my heart 1s any disposition to accuse you of having departed from the faith, believing as I do that you are building on the alone foundation Christ Jesus; but while I thus extend to you the hand of fellow ship and expicss my belief that you are members of that body of which Christ 15 the head, I cannot but long to see you without abandoning one of those principles by which you are actuated, which have thei1 authority founded 011 the written word of God, yield the same simple obedience of faith to those institutions of the Saviour which he establishedias the outward and visible signs of that inward and spiritual grace which he commu nicates to the souls of those who trusting in his righteousness and atonement, are looking for sal~ vation through his obedience and blood.
