She was awarded a first rank in the lists Of novel-writers; and, though time may have lessened the readers of her books, their influence on literature is quite evident from the constant references to her in the writings of English, American, and Continental authors.

This Study has its limitations and shortcomings; but great labor and much time have been expended on it, and an earnest desire has prompted its plan and execution.
