The investigation Will be found to exhibit one frequent principle of revelation - that a spiritual idea is first given to mankind in a very simple and, perhaps, a material shape then, as religious insight quickens, it is challenged and discussed and repudiated, and, in consequence, this and that part of it is spiritualised and lifted to a higher plane, until at last the old idea is re established, only not in its first material form, but in a form altogether spiritual. We shall find this principle illustrated in regard to certain great ideas Which underlie the doctrine of Atone ment. The first is the solidarity of mankind.
