The notes call attention to differences of idiom and peculiarities of syntax, and as a rule there are, with the first appearance of any noteworthy construction, refer ences to the grammar (goodwin's, and Allen's Hadley's) explaining the same. But as the work proceeds the stu dent is left more and more to his own resources. He should be cautioned repeatedly, however, against word for-word translations, and taught to think of the idea, and then find out the natural way of expressing that idea in Greek.
