Excerpt from Evolution and Christianity: A Study
The attempt has been made in this book to examine the relation of Christianity to Evolution - not simply to re-direct the thought of man to the origin, growth and progress of natural religion, but more especially to show that "nature is the sum of the manifestations of the will of God," and that from time immemorial there has been a steady and natural unfolding of the moral sentiment, seen in all species of morals and religion. I have purposely evaded all questions which may involve metaphysical subtlety and sophistry, and endeavored to touch upon only those relative points which force themselves upon me by their importance.
