Among the earliest reports presented to Parliament, the most valuable was that of 1836, the Committee in this instance being composed of C. Duncombe, T. D. Morrison and William Bruce. By agreement among themselves, Dr. Duncombe was authorized to visit the schools of the United States for the purpose of ascertaining how far the legislation in force there would be of service in devising a system of common schools for Upper Canada.
