We, the inhabitants of educated Europe, have learnt under the guidance of science to look upon dreams as simply the creations of our own imaginations. We no longer, in the popular phrase, believe in dreams. But both savage and civilised men from the earliest historical times down to the present have professed, and still profess occasionally.
