We fully realize that onh does not exactly represent the French nasal sounds on and an (en); but neither does anh, nor ang, nor ong. The English language does not possess these sounds, hence no symbols to represent them adequately. The best, the only entirely satisfactory way, is to get somebody who knows how to pronounce French fairly well to show you, by actual example, how to pronounce those sounds, as also the sounds of u, eu. They are the only ones that will offer any serious difficulty to the novice, and once heard, they will not be overhard to imitate.
In conclusion, we hope that the little First Aid will be useful in helping American students on their way to the acquisition of one of the most beautiful languages in the world, and incidentally will make easier, and more profitable their sojourn among their friends and Allies across the water.
