We stand upon a promontory and
Behold the billows of a world, and fain
Would rear a lighthouse, that the nations may
Avoid the reefs where countless corpses lie.

We copy not the pyramids, nor Greek
Nor Gothic forms, but, building for the years
To be, with the materials at our hand,
Create an order of utility.
