Excerpt from The Romance of a Playwright
Prefects are not always fortunate; their ambition is satisfied with occasional good luck. On the first Sunday of September, 1878, the Prefect of Tours considered himself very unfortunate. He and his neighboring colleagues had fixed upon that day for the opening of the chase; on the morning of this day, so impatiently looked forward to, a gentle, persistent rain set in and continued till the following Sunday - a week of a steady rain, unceasing and pertinacious, like the weary loquacity of a dull, prosy orator.
