To those readers who may care to look over the pages of this little book I should like to offer a few observations as to the reasons for its compilation, and also by way of explanation of why in some cases a fairly full history of the insects referred to is given, together with means of prevention, and a figure accompanying, and in others only a figure and description, or perhaps only the name.
