Excerpt from Man Shall Not Live by Bread Alone: Delivered Before the Unitarian Churches of Sheffield and Buda, Illinois, on March 22, 1903
One of these, known in history as the Mayflower, reached these shores in December, 1620, with per haps a hundred persons - men, women and children.
They landed upon a rock-bound and barren coast; no reception, by the hand of man, had been made for their arrival; no table spread with food; no roof made by man was ready to shelter them from the storm; no army of soldiers, no cannon to guard them and keep them safe, through the defenseless watches of the night. Those, who, in that day and age, lived to the present and not to the future.
