As Comte said, Nothing is destroyed until it is replaced and the Vandals are out in such numbers, and their blows fall with such vigour on the fabric Of conventional morality, that some replacement does indeed require to be done.

Those who read these papers as they appeared week by week in justice will perhaps notice that the Chapter on the drink question has been omitted, as well as the portion of the second chapter leading up to it. This has been done, not because Of any material change Of opinion on the question, but because such a topic was apart from the constructive aim and character Of the book. L.
