Excerpt from Social Life

The publication of the present work was suggested to us in the first instance by a widely expressed desire on the part of many, readers of the Delineator to obtain in convenient form the whole of the series of letters on "Social Life" which have appeared in that magazine. The idea seemed a good one, inasmuch as these letters alone, issued in consecutive shape, would form a compendious book of reference in that department of social law whereof they treat. We have therefore reprinted in toto the twenty-three original letters from the aunt to her niece, together with an equal number of interesting letters from the niece to the aunt, thus arranging the whole volume in the form of a genial and chatty correspondence.
