The problem of determining scholarship offers for admitted freshman applicants with financial need (hereafter usually referred to as needy ad mits) is faced annually by student aid administrators at most colleges and universities throughout the country. The particular models described in this paper were developed to assist the administrators of the Student Aid Center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; however, the results presented should be of more general interest and use.
