An eighth volume has been added, treating of Physiological Chemistry, the Animal Chemistry (zoochemie) being written by Prof. Lehmann, the Vegetable Chemistry (phytochemie) by Prof. Roohleder. This volume, which is rather an addition to Gmelin's Handbook than an integral part of it, has not been translated. The Zoochemie, indeed, with the exception of a few recent additions, is identical with Lehmann's Lehrbuch der Physiologischen Chemie, a translation of wh was published some years ago by the Cavendish So ty.
