Of marbles France has a bountiful supply. They are obtained chiefly in the Vosges, the Alps, and Pyrenees, and from Boulogne and the J ura. Quarries at the last-named locality are regularly worked on a large Scale and blocks are furnished at low prices.

The French section contained a great many beautiful marble columns designed for the new opera house. The marbles came from the quar ries of Sarrancolin, (hautes-pyrenees,) St. Beat, (haute-garonne,) Fé lines, (herault,) St. Antonin, (bouches-da Rhone,) Porcieux, (van) J eu mont, (nord)
