The original plan of the book contemplated a joint authorship, in which Prof. B. Shimek, curator of the University Herbarium, should bring to the preparation of the lessons the benefit of his long experience as a teacher of Botany in the high schools. As it turned out, Mr. Shimek was prevented from doing all that was planned for him. Lessons XI. - XX., inclusive, are, however, chiefly his 'work. His is also the note, To the Teacher, following, and Appendices A and D.
