This book traces the history of dome cars going back almost a century in time. The modern dome car was perfected by Pullman and Budd in the 1940s. They became popular in the late 1940s and 1950s. The decline in railroad travel experienced in the 1960s also led to the decline of the dome car. Amtrak adding double decker Superliner fleets in the late 1970s and early 1980s was the nail in the coffin. Amtrak's last remaining dome car stopped running in 2018. Luckily, we have places like the North Shore Scenic Railroad which preserves three dome cars for passengers -- Sky View, Silver Club, and Puget Sound. This book traces the history of each of these dome cars.
