PKEFACE In preparing these pages, the object has been twofold; first, to provide a graded course of problems beginning with those which are extremely simple and leading "step by step to those which are more intricate and difficult; second, to place clearly before the student such definitions, explanations and directions as will be required to solve the problems. The explanations of the methods of constructing the representations of magnitudes in the different forms of projection, consist mainly of a course of reasoning, illustrated by examples, showing the adaptation of the reasoning to concrete problems, designed to aid in intelligently constructing the solutions. It is the earnest hope of the author that the students will supplement his labors by conscientiously analyzing each problem assigned them for solution, and thus acquire the power to apply the principles of projection to the solution of engineering problems. 112241 ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION CHAPTER L TNTEODUOTION. Materials. To construct neat solutions of the problems embraced in this course, students should provide themselves with the following materials: A drawing board--20"x 26". A Tee square to fit; viz., with blade as long as the longer dimension of the board. A 11" triangle of 60 and 30. A 7" triangle of 45. A scale or rule divided to of an inch. Half a dozen thumb tacks. Paper, at least 1fi"x 22", as required. Curves. A good drawing pencil. An eraser, the author prefers the Hardmuth gray. A bottle of liquid drawing ink. A case of drawing instruments. Drawing Board. The drawing board should have one face true and smooth on which the paper may be placed: this face should be kept as free as possible from all dents, cuts and mars that would interfere with the accurate use of the drawing instrume...
