Excerpt: ... and personal, subject to taxation according to law within said City and County, and to be collected, in addition to the ordinary taxes, a sum of money equal to that specified in said estimate. The sum estimated by the Board, as necessary to be raised for the year 1865, was one hundred and fifty thousand dollars, and that sum was authorized to be raised by the Tax Law. § 170. Board of Revision and Correcting Assessments.--The power and authority now vested in the Common Council of the said City, relative to assessment lists and the confirmation thereof, is hereby devolved upon and vested exclusively in the Comptroller, Counsel to the Corporation, and Recorder of said City, who, together, shall constitute a Board of Revision and Correction of all such assessment lists. Certain regulations are then prescribed. See Chapter 20. Act of April, 1861, ch. 308.) By a Resolution of the Common Council, approved December 27, 1862, the salary was fixed at one thousand dollars each. The salary of the Clerk was fixed, by Resolution of the Board, at six hundred dollars. § 171. The City Courts.--Some of the Courts are classed as City Courts, in distinction from the State and County Courts. They are the Police District Courts and the District Civil Courts. The salaries and all necessary supplies form a charge upon the City, to be raised by taxation. The salaries of the Police District Courts, to be provided for in 1865, amounted to one hundred and three thousand three hundred and thirty-three dollars and thirty-six cents; and of the District Civil Courts, to one hundred and nine thousand eight hundred dollars.
