And this deponent further saith, that the several accounts and invoices also hereunto annexed and marked A. JV. I. were duly extracted from the books of the said C. and D. and examined by him this deponent. AFFIRMATION, an indulgence allowed to Quakers, who in cases where an oafh is required from others may make a solemn affirmation that what they say is true. Affirmation. A. B. of ifc. solemnly affirmeih that C. D. of (s'c. (as in affidavits only you say affirmeth, instead of maketh oath, and affirmant in the stead of deponent, affirmed, (Jfc.) AFRICA, one of the four quarters of the world, bounded Or the north by the mediterranean, which seperates it from Europe, it is connected with Asia by the Isthmus of Suez, on the east it is, bounded by the Red Sea, and Indian Ocean, and on the south wests by the southern, and Atlantic Oceans, lying nearly all within the torrid zone, the chief trade is to the coast of Guinea where are most of the commercial settlements, and from whence formerly a number of slaves were purchased The Cape of Good Hope, now'in the possession of the English is the most southerly point but it is merely a depot or landing place, as the trades of the country has no connection with it, its general exports are gold dust, ivory, gum, red wood, indigo, dates, raisins, wax, goat skins, ostrich feathers, coral, pepper, &c. in Teturn they receive cloths, muslins, hardwarex, coarse cutlery, india goods, toys, spirits, tobacco, glass beads, small mirrors, nails, fire-arms, powder, cowries, arrangoes, and coral beads. &c. y AGE, a man at fourteen years of age can consent to marriage and choose his guardian...
