Steamers belonging to the company called the " Austrian Lloyds" leave Constantinople for Trieste twice in each month, calling by the way at the Dardanelles, Smyrna, Syra, Athens, Patras, Corfu, and Ancona. From Trieste a steamer goes three times a week to Venice, from whence we proceeded, via Maestre, through Padua, Vicenza, Verona, &c. to Milan; from Milan by the Lake of Como to Chiavenna, where, crossing the Alps by the Splugen Pass, we entered Switzerland, and journeying by Coire and Lake Wallenstadt to Zurich, and thence to Basle, descended the Rhine to Rotterdam. Of a road so betravelled and tourijied I should say not a word, did I not think I had a good excuse for so doing, in the utility, of which a slight notice of its advantages and facilities may be to some of my fellow Indians; the majority of whom, by quitting Alexandria in a steamer bound for Falmouth, see nothing but sea and sky; whereas, by adopting the route above mentioned, many interesting spots and objects may be visited, at an expense both of time and money exceeding but little, if at all, the duration and charges of the less entertaining and instructive voyage. We left the Pirseus at four in the afternoon of the 27th of April, and by the following morning had made Cape Matapan. During the 28th we kept coasting along, passing the Gulf of Coron, Bay of Navarino, and other celebrated localities, and at seven, on the morning of the 29th, anchored at Patras.
