Excerpt: ... APPENDIX. RULES. i. That this Society be denominated the " National Friendly Society" of operative Worsted Manufacturers, and other industriousoperatives. ii. That the objects of this Society shall be the moral and intellectual improvement of it's members, and an equalization and advance of wages, when considered proper and practicable in the trades connected with this institution. in. That each trade admitted into this Society shall keep its own money, but shall pledge themselves to advance such sums of money as may be required to assist any other trade belonging to the same, which may come in collision with their employers. Each trade that may have advanced such money, to be assisted in the same manner when the necessity of the case may require such assistance. IT. That a Grand Master, Deputy Grand Master, and Grand Secretary, be the governing officers of this Society, to be chosen at the Grand Lodge Meeting out of the delegates then present, whose duty it shall be to transact the general business of the Society, to visit the different Lodges, to arrange and appoint the opening of new one's, and to revise, methodise and prepare all matters connected with this Society, rules excepted; the Deputy Grand Master to act in the absence of the Grand Master, but both shall not be paid for sitting at one time. v. That the Grand Lodge be constituted of representatives from every district to be sent as follows:--for every district containing 4 Lodges and under, one delegate ; and 8 and under, 2 delegates ; 12 and under, 3 delegates; and so on in proportion, to meet on the 1st Monday in February, and the 1st Monday in August. VI. That any Lodge that is not satisfied with the above rule, shall have the privilege of sending a delegate to the Grand Lodge Meeting, exclusive of...
