Service Abroad is a collection of lectures delivered by H. H. Montgomery in the Divinity School of the University of Cambridge in 1910. The book explores the concept of service and its importance in the context of international relations and missionary work. Montgomery draws on his own experiences as a missionary in China and India to illustrate the challenges and rewards of serving abroad. He also discusses the role of Christian faith in motivating and guiding service, and offers practical advice for those considering missionary work. Through his thoughtful and insightful lectures, Montgomery provides a compelling argument for the value of service and the transformative power it can have on both individuals and communities. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Cambridge as the Pastoral Lectures of 1910, and they are printed substantially as they were given, a fact which will account for the colloquial tone evident throughout them. The last chapter consists of a lecture given to women at Cambridge in the same term. My one aim has been to give atmo sphere to those whose hearts turn to work abroad, and I cannot but believe that the advice given me by very wise men and women for special use in these lectures will be warmly appreciated by those who read these pages. I account myself fortunate in having elicited so much wisdom from our most experienced workers for the sake of a younger generation. Of course I have not attempted to cover all lands or all problems.
