This volume is intended for the patriotic people of A merica, who hold in grateful remembrance the memory of those who fought the battles, framed the Constitution, and administered the government in the early days of our country. Time should not lessen this feeling of interest and pride in our forefathers, but it should be kept alive ;and it is the hope of the publisher that this little book may assist in keeping bright the spark that influenced the Revolutionary patriots. That the Revolutionary period is still regarded with pride is shown by the recent interest in the hereditary patriotic societies of the land, having for their foundation the love for and history of the heroic age of our republic.
