"God, Who commanded the light to shine cut of darkness, bath shinid in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the Face of Jesus Christ." HPHESE words, joined on as they are to those with which we commenced our Mission a week ago, should be noticed briefly in connection with their original purpose, and then as bearing on the special work in which we have been engaged. Now S. Paul is here speaking primarily of himself and his fellow Apostles. He is impressing on the Corinthians the source and the end of his preaching and of all his ministerial labours. Not himself, but the Lord has he been setting before them: not on his own account, but for Jesus' sake, has he been their servant in things pertaining to God. And he shows that this is so by the verse which I hope you will often think of as one suggestive of duty, warning, and-. As it was in His natural creation, so b it in His spiritual creation. Light is His blessed gift. And He gives us this treasure as to His stewards: the light is to shine forth to others: others are to receive from us this wondrous knowledge of the Love of God. The face of Moses shone when he came forth from the thick darkness where God was1--a resemblance, Divinely intended, of that intense Glory of the Highest which was seen only in the Person of His Beloved Son.
