"If there is any one here has any thing against him, let him scramble up into the loft and hide in the potatoes," said the man, in a loud whisper, "for here come the soldiers, hot foot, tramp, tramp; make haste, ye devils, ye, and mind, don't bruise the potatoes, if you can help it." "Though I have nothing against me," said the Brancher, rising with great expedition, "I'll get into an auger hole, to avoid unpleasant company; come, Shane, get up into the loft, and give me your hand."
