' The power of the Passion of Jesus, as applied to the life of Action:"--this was our subject yesterday. The underlying thought was this. As members of Christ,--because of the invisible but real union by which we are joined to Jesus Christ, and the mysterious in-dwelling of the Holy Ghost,--we have the power given to us of drawing in, from the Incarnate God, strength for our daily life. The Holy Spirit takes the Words of Christ, and the Works of Christ,-- the garments, as it were, in which His Divine Nature was shrouded,--and shows them unto us: and we find them impregnated with a Divine electricity, which, if we wait long enough, gazing on that Life, and drinking in those Words, affects the highest part of our being. As we meditate on the Passion, life flows in, through those wounds by which Humanity is healed. We saw that--in order to use this power--we may write on one side of our book:--"the Disease;" on the other, "the Antidote:" in other words, (i) the temptation to which we are especially exposed; (2) that side of the Passion of Christ, by which the temptation may be overcome, the disease remedied. For instance, if tempted,--as all of us are tempted, at times, to lose our individuality in a crowd; or if tempted to a love of ease; the Antidote is found by gazing on that earnest Life, beginning with: "I must be about My Father's business;" and persevering in that steadfast resolve of His Human Will, until the Human Spirit which His Father had given Him was again commended to His Father's keeping, and His work was "finished."
