On the various meanings in which this possessive gen. is connected with thai and ylyvtadtu, see Kriiger, Sj,rachl. § 47. 6. 1 sq., Bernhardyi SiInt. in. 46, p. 165, and on the very intelligible x'affiis ip&s, ripipa--vv£, Okiros, see Jelf, Gr. § 904. 3, Madvig, Lat. Gr. § 473. a. The reading iari DlFG; Syr. (not Philox.), Claroman., Goth., al. is obviously a conformation to the preceding Iari. 6. "a/io oiv 'Accordingly then;' exhortation following on the preceding declaration, the illative &pa being supported and enhanced by the collective and rctrospective oiv; sce notes on Gal. vi. 10. In Attic Greek this combination is only found in the case of the interrogative ipa, comp. Klotz, Decar. Vol. II. p. 181, Herm. Vigor, No. 292, and Stallb. on Plato, Republ. v. p. 462 A. KadtiSufit v 'sleep,' i. v. be careless and indifferent, fi)j iutaptv rav Ka&v tpyuv, Theoph; comp. Eph. v. 14, and the very pertinent remarks of Beck, Christ. Lehrwiss. Vol. I. p. 299 (cited by Koch), on the deepening sleep of the soul under the influence of sin; see also Beck, Seelenl. I. 8, p. 18. The ol Aoiirol are hero obviously uubelievers, whcther careless Jews or ignorant heathens; comp. notes on ch. iv. 13. Lachm. omits the Koi before ol Aoiirol, but on insufficient external authority AB; 2 mss.; Amit., al., and appy. in opposition to St. Paul's prevailing usage: comp. 1 Cor. ix. 5, Eph. ii 3, and above, ch. iv. 13. v4iipoiptv 'be sober;' comp. 1 Pct. v. 8.
