Excerpt: ... ORDINATION CHARGE, REDRUTH. BY THE REV. JOHN RATTENBURY. MY Dear Young Brethren,--By the Providence of God we are here. You are here, to enter into this holy ministry by this formal act of consecration; and I am here, by the same Providence, to give to you words of counsel and of comfort. May that Divine Spirit, by Whose guidance and blessing I am here as your minister this day, and by Whom you are thus called and hallowed, command His grace upon us! The Scripture upon which I shall endeavour to found some practical and sincere observations you will find in the sixth chapter of St. Paul's Second Epistle to the Corinthians:--" But in all things approving ourselves as ministers of God." You will, no doubt, in your studies of the Scriptures, have observed that this is but a part of one ef the most comprehensive views of the Christian ministry--of the Christian ministry, in its object, in its spirit, in its trial, in its triumph, anywhere to be found in the circle of sacred writ. If you take the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth chapters of this Second Epistle, you will find a sublime putting, by one of the most elevated and sanctified ministers of God ever called by the Holy Ghost, of the office and work of the ministry. St. Paul's views on the great service to which you are called this day deserve our profound study. It is not my purpose in addressing you this morning to give a general--scarcely a partial--exposition of these chapters, but rather to use them for the purpose of presenting to you the truth in some of the forms of it that may be useful in your after life. May God assist us! The general lines of observation suggested by the clause of the text are the ministerial office--" ministers of God;" the ministerial standard, and ministerial faithfulness. ...
