But this application was not all at that time made against me, for I had just before then applied to Plautius Parus,not more famous for his genteel behaviour, his well known humanity,and literary productions, than for his readiness to lend his pen to relieve the distressed; I laid before him the particulars of my cafe, and intreated his compassionate assistance, it was but a very short time after, that I was favoured with a letter from him, informing me, that he hoped I would excuse his taking time to enquire into the circumstances of my story, which he found to be for the most part true; but should not scruple to add, I had been guilty of some indiscretions, however he would serve me all that he could, and believed it would be in his power to affist me, but begged I would take no public stept till such time as he saw me, which would certainly be in a day or two, &c. this letter was directed to Clare Nugenius in Newgate, The mistake in my christian name was a proof with me he had mad some enquiry into my affairs, as it was my mother's christian name, and which I had in no shape mentioned or thought of in my letter to him.
