HAT a Cause like the present should ever have appeared in a court of justice, has been a subject of regret to the judge before whom it was tried, to the friends of the different parties, to every good man informed of the circumstances, and to no one more than the Plaintiff: that the following Statement and Remarks should be published to the world, must be a subject of additional regret: but that justice which is due to the character of every man who values or deserves the respect of the virtuous part of society, imperiously demanded a recent appeal to a court of law; and. the same justice as imperiously demands thgii-! sent appeal to the public. In this opinion the Plaintiff is confirmed by the opinion of those persons, whose friendship he has long experienced, whose judgment lie has long respected, and who have felt for his character as Friends ought to feel.
