Referring to the appointment of the Rev. B. P. Symons, D.D., Warden of Wadham, to the office of Vice-Chancellor, which, contrary to all precedent, was opposed by the Tractarian party. As this was generally felt by the members of Convocation to be a factious disturbance of the peace of the University, there was so large :ti attendance on the day of appointment, as to render it necessary to adjourn from the House of Convocation to the Sheldon Theatre, where Dr. S. was elected by a large majority. The numbers being for him 882, and against him 183.
