Excerpt: ... REV. WILLIAM PRICE. Dcriso upwards of twenty-nine years Mr. Price has been successfully performing the work of a Primitive Methodist Itinerant minister in the Nottingham District. His first circuit was Chesterfield, upon which he entered in September, 1847. The late Rev. John Verity, an eccentric, but powerful preacher, of whom many singular anecdotes continue to be told by persons who knew him, was then the superintendent of the said circuit; but being stricken down with paralysis Mr. Price supplied his place. The Conference of 1848 having received him as a minister on probation, Lincoln became his second station, whence he removed in succession to Leicester (1st and 2nd.), Belper, Nottingham 2nd., Winster, Newark, Ripley, Sheffield 1st., Wirksworth, Loughborough, and then again to Nottingham 2nd., where he is now labouring. In these several stations he laboured acceptably and usefully. As a public speaker Mr. Price enjoys considerable popularity. Nor need we wonder at this when we take into account his commanding appearance, his truly expressive and genial countenance, his fluency of speech, his descriptive power, his inexhaustible store of illustrations, his ready wit and humour, and last, but not least, his magnificent voice, which is capable of commanding an immense congregation, and which he can modulate with ease and success. By his powers of description and imitation, he can make the persons and events of other days, as well as of the present time, live, and move, and breathe, as it were, before the eyes of his congregation, while his delineations of the sins, follies, foibles, and idiosyncracies of individuals are frequently exceedingly graphic and telling.
