Could there now be given a clear, full, and accurate account of the origin and development of any national system of mythology, or of the sources, early texture, and adornment of any series of legends, an exceedingly interesting and instructive addition would be thereby made to the stock of human knowledge, and the illustration of the progress of particular communities.
