Inhaltsangabe

An insider's guide to the coming philanthropic revolution Meet the next generation of big donors the Gen X and Millennial philanthropists who will be the most significant donors ever and will shape our world in profound ways. Hear their ambitious plans to revolutionize giving so it achieves greater impact. And learn how to help them succeed in a world that needs smart, effective donors now more than ever. As 'next gen donors' step into their philanthropic roles, they not only have unprecedented financial resources, but also big ideas for how to wield their financial power. They want to disrupt the traditional world of charitable giving, and they want to do so now, not after they retire to a life of philanthropic leisure. Generation Impact pulls back the curtain on these rising leaders and their 'Impact Revolution,' offering firsthand insight into the hands-on, boundary-pushing, unconventional strategies they want to pursue. But this fascinating book also reveals a generation of new donors searching for ways to respect the past even as they transform the future. They are determined to honor the philanthropic legacies and values they've inherited by making big giving more effective than ever before, by finally moving the needle on enduring social problems. Based on years of research and close engagement with next gen donors, Generation Impact offers a unique profile of the new faces of philanthropy. Find out, directly from them: * How they want to revolutionize giving to expand its positive impact on our lives and our communities. * Which causes interest them, how they want to engage with those causes and, perhaps more important, how they do not want to engage. * Which new tools and strategies for change excite them most. * What they are learning from previous generations, and what they want to bring to their work alongside those generations. * How we can all ensure their historic potential is channeled in ways that make our world better. The Impact Revolution will be messy, but it could also result in solutions for some of our persistent problems. Generation Impact offers targeted, practical advice to parents, families, and their advisors, as well as nonprofit professionals those who work closest with these next gen donors on how to engage, nurture, and encourage them as they reshape major giving and make their mark on history. Help them channel their enthusiasm and their wealth to make the most positive difference in a world with such great need.

He holds the world's first-ever endowed chair for family philanthropy, the Frey Foundation Chair at the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University. PRAISE FOR GENERATION IMPACT

"Today's emerging generation of donors are driven by a new definition of success: impact. This is clear through Goldseker and Moody's work, which uncovers the motives and approaches driving today's new strategic philanthropists. Many close friends are profiled in this book, and I can attest to their earnest, values-driven approach. For anyone who is eager to understand the next gen donor, this book offers truly valuable insights."
—Howard W. Buffett, Lecturer in International and Public Affairs, Columbia University; Co-author, 40 Chances: Finding Hope in a Hungry World

"Philanthropy is changing, and with it, the world. Generation Impact demonstrates, with data and vivid personal stories, that Gen Xers and Millennials are aligning their values, their giving, and their lives. This is a must-read book for anyone concerned with the future of philanthropy."
—Peter Singer, Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics, Princeton University; Author, The Life You Can Save and The Most Good You Can Do

"Finally! Goldseker and Moody have produced a sorely needed, clear-minded view of how Millennials and Gen-Xers approach giving. They slash some stereotypes—like Millennial selfishness—and offer other fresh views, showing in some ways how next gen donors approach philanthropy differently than previous generations, such as their willingness to 'use all the tools' and drive impact through for-profit as well as more traditional charitable means. But many young philanthropists are also simply following in their parents' footsteps. This honest look at next-gen philanthropy, told with well-written, real life examples, is a must-read."
—Leslie Crutchfield, Co-Author, Forces for Good and Do More Than Give

AN INSIDER'S GUIDE TO THE COMING PHILANTHROPIC REVOLUTION

Meet the next generation of big donors—the Gen X and Millennial philanthropists who will be the most significant donors ever and will shape our world in profound ways. Hear them describe their ambitious plans to revolutionize giving so it achieves greater impact. And learn how to help them succeed in a world that needs smart, effective donors now more than ever.

Next gen donors will have unprecedented resources to give, some as creators of vast new fortunes and some as the inheritors of the greatest generational transfer of wealth in history. If they succeed in revolutionizing giving, donors stand a chance to make unprecedented progress on causes from education to the environment, from human rights to health care. And instead of waiting until they retire to a life of philanthropic leisure, they want to make these changes NOW.

Aus dem Klappentext

The donors who sit at the apex of giving affect your life more than you might know. Whether Gen Xers or Millennials, America's next generation of rising donors will have an outsized impact on the causes we all care about, eclipsing even those famous philanthropists who have come before. Generation Impact puts you at the heart of today's philanthropic revolution. Based on years of research and candid insights from the vanguard of next gen donors, this book offers a rare profile of the new face of philanthropy. You will get a look inside the "Impact Revolution" already under way in the world of giving, and learn what this revolution means for all of us.

Generation Impact includes fascinating first-person accounts from next gen donors like Justin Rockefeller, Victoria Rogers, Hadi Partovi, John Rutherford Seydel III, Alex Soros, and Katherine Lorenz. Find out, directly from them:

Families, advisors, nonprofit professionals, and anyone who cares about a cause will learn how to help these rising donors channel their enthusiasm—and their wealth—to make the most positive difference in today's world.
