John R. Schermerhorn Jr is the Charles G. O'Blenessprofessor of management emeritus in the College of Business at OhioUniversity. John earned a PhD in organisational behaviour fromNorthwestern University, an MBA (with distinction) in managementand international business from New York University, and a BS inbusiness administration from the State University of New York atBuffalo. He previously taught at Tulane University, the Universityof Vermont, and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, wherehe also served as head of the Department of Management andassociate dean of the College of Business Administration. Management educators and students alike know John as the author ofseveral leading international textbooks, including ExploringManagement and Management 12th edition, and as a senior co-authorof Organizational Behavior 12th edition and Core Concepts ofOrganizational Behavior. John has also published numerous articlesin leading management journals and is a member of the Academy ofManagement. Paul Davidson is associate professor of management in theQueensland University of Technology Business School. He has 35years university teaching experience and more than 100 academicpublications, including nine books, to his credit. He has studiedand taught at the University of Queensland, the University ofBirmingham, the University of Geneva, the University of Otago, Stanford University and Southern Cross University. He has degreesin science (psychology), theology and business administration. Inaddition, Paul has also consulted and taught nationally andinternationally to many public and private sector organisations, including the Sheraton Hotel Group in Australia and Asia, RoyalDutch Shell in the Netherlands and the United States, andextensively to the Royal Australian Navy in Sydney. He has been avisiting professor in management at Reims Management School andGrenoble Graduate School of Business in France, Jyv skyl Polytechnic in Finland, Euromed Business School at Marseille inFrance, and at the University of Texas at Austin in the UnitedStates. His doctoral research was in the area of management education anddevelopment, and his current research interests are in thedevelopment of HR management competencies and international humanresource management, and in project management. Prior to hisacademic career, Paul was an officer in the Royal Australian AirForce and a clinical psychologist. Between academic appointments, he has been chief executive officer of a company with some 650employees. He was a state councillor (1994-2007) andpresident (2000-05) of the Australian Human ResourcesInstitute in Queensland, and chairman of its National AccreditationCommittee (2004-10), as well as being a fellow of theAustralian Human Resources Institute. He is also a fellow of theAustralian Institute of Company Directors. David Poole is the owner and CEO of two organisations, Dragon College of Business and Sports Online (an online retailer ofsports memorabilia). Prior to moving into business, he was alecturer in the Department of Business at Macquarie University. Hehas also served as chief executive officer of an industryassociation and worked as a senior lecturer in management at theUniversity of Western Sydney from 1996 to 2004. He has also workedas an adjunct lecturer at business schools in Australia, China andthe United States, and has taught in Vietnam and Hong Kong. Davidhas a BBus, MBA, MEdAdmin and PhD. His research interests includepublic sector management, university management, organisationalbehaviour and business strategy. David's research has beenpublished in journals including Management Today, Leading andManaging, Higher Education and the International Journal of PublicSector Management. He has co-authored several popular managementtexts, and has worked on this textbook since the first edition. Peter Woods is a senior lecturer in the Department ofInternational Business and Asian Studies, Griffith UniversityBusiness School. His teaching has been recognised by multipleawards, including the prestigious 2010 Australian Learning andTeaching Council Award for Teaching Excellence(Internationalisation); Griffith University's Excellence inTeaching Award (Business and Law) in 2010; and as a co-recipient ofthe Pro-Vice Chancellor's award for innovation in 2011. In2012, he was awarded 'Brisbane's Best Lecturer'by the Golden Key International Honour Society. Peter has alsoserved as academic fellow at the Griffith Institute of HigherEducation, helping academic staff to improve teaching in themulticultural classroom. He specialises in teaching introductorymanagement, intercultural management, the social context of Asianbusiness and strategic management. Peter has provided management consulting to multinationalcorporations, tertiary education institutions, government agenciesand private sector businesses. He has delivered cross-culturaltraining in Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, New Zealand and number ofAustralian cities. Peter is in demand as a keynote conferencespeaker internationally and nationally, providing training fortertiary educators in institutions such as the University ofQueensland, University of Canberra, QANTM college (Brisbane), University of Victoria (Wellington, NZ), University of Canterbury(NZ) and many Indonesian Universities. He is a speaker of MandarinChinese and Bahasa Indonesian. Prior to joining Griffith University, Peter worked for a number ofyears helping to establish a number of non-governmentorganisations, including the Multicultural Community Centre inBrisbane's Fortitude Valley. Prior to this, he worked at anumber of hospitals as a supervising medical social worker, specialising in rehabilitation and aged care. Peter is a member ofthe Academy of Management, Griffith Asia Institute, AustraliaIndonesia Business Council, Austcham Shanghai and Griffith Academyof Learning and Teaching Scholars. Peter received his PhD in 2007 after researching'Cross-Cultural Performance Management in the ExpatriateContext'. His research interests include cross-culturalmanagement, Chinese leadership, Indonesian leadership, performancemanagement, diversity management and teaching in the multiculturalcontext. He has received multiple international and Australianawards for his research and has published in leading internationalacademic journals, including the Journal of Business Ethics andInformation Technology and People. Alan Simon is an associate professor in management in theUniversity of Western Australia's Business School. He hasmore than 30 years university teaching experience and more than 70publications to his credit, including several books and monographs.He teaches introductory management, managing organisational change, strategic capabilities and organisational success, and businessresearch methods at the University of Western Australia. He has wonExcellence in Undergraduate and Postgraduate Teaching Awards atUWA, and was awarded the Pearson prize for Australian and NewZealand Academy of Management Educator of the Year in 2012. Hisdoctorate was awarded by Rhodes University and in it he developed anew method for conducting research. Alan has consulted widely to industry and government and he workedand consulted for the P&S Business Consulting Group inMelbourne for many years. He has also delivered several shortcourses on management, both in Australia and overseas. His clientlist, to name a few, includes the Australian Institute ofManagement, Barclays Bank, Comcater CCE, Holden's EngineCompany, Lend Lease, Main Roads WA, Mercor Consulting and PioneerConcrete. He is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Academyof Management and the British Academy of Management. He has playedand coached cricket, played rugby union and still plays competitionsquash and touch rugby. He is also a boating enthusiast, holding anoffshore skipper's ticket. Ellen McBarron is a lecturer in management and HR and isbased at the Brisbane campus of Australian Catholic University. Herbackground includes 30 years in the finance industry, where sheleft as a national training manager in 1999 to move to academia.She has taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels inBurma, Thailand, Hong Kong and China. Ellen is an experiencedmanager and leader, actively researching the organisationmanagement of expatriates, and has experience with internationalHRM, performance management, social entrepreneurship and refugeeemployability. She is actively involved in social justice issueswithin the university community, and has regular consultancy workwith the Queensland government and the mining industry. Ellen won aCarrick Award for the development of a replicable and sustainablemodel that delivers empowering tertiary education to camp-basedrefugees.
