Each of us has an Inner Presence that connects us to Divine Presence or Eternal Spirit. This true center (True Self) comes from pure consciousness. As being itself it is an imperishable reality. Once awakened, Inner Presence distinguishes its subjective self (its “I am-ness”) from its objective material creation. Illumination or insight of this kind cannot be taught; but comes to us only through a practice of spiritual awakening. It is a shift in perception which takes us to new levels of awareness. Buddhists call this revelation “Right Knowledge.” We are calling it “centering paths of transformation.”This is a book about awakening to a realization of the practical wisdom that we explored in Book One: Wisdom's Promise. In our first book we uncovered Aramaic meanings of key words in the Beatitudes, meanings that helped us to make practical sense of the ideas Jesus had presented. We discovered that these eight short teachings captured the essence of what living in the “kingdom of heaven” or God’s Enlightened Counsel is all about. The beatitudes journey enriched us, and in some ways enlightened us. But if we are to keep from walking in circles – from knowing what we should do, but not knowing how to do it – we need to move from lessons about an objective material awakening to a more subjective spiritual awakening. We invite you now into the world of Wisdom’s Practice. Jesus called it malkutha dashmaya. This time “kingdom of heaven” might be better understood as Illuminating Presence. It is within and among us all the time, though we oftentimes fail to “see” it; or, rather, fail to awaken to it.
