How can Mrs Rostowski, his counsellor, help him? And what help is Oliver, Peter’s friend, to her? Then there is her van driving husband and amateur philosopher, Greg. What is it that Hercules fears in Peter’s return? Will Peter arrive in time? As the year runs down from summer into winter, there are times when John Hendry doubts that there is a way through for these folk.
