Veerashaivas existed prior to the 12th century, but their philosophy and practices were based on Shivāgamas (9th century), Siddhānta Shikhāmaṇi (10th century), and/or Shrīkarabhāshya (11th century). The present day Lingāyatas are the followers of the philosophy and practices put forward by the Sharaṇas of the twelfth century. The terms ‘Veerashaiva’ and ‘Lingāyata’ have been used interchangeably. The religious philosophy is Theistic Monism, a belief that all is God and the Self is God. The religious practice includes all aspects of one’s daily life.This book has extracted the essence of the Oneness Philosophy and Practice, and has given it in a summary form so that it can be understood easily.
