In my first book, "The Geodesic Manifesto – Essentials of Software Development in a Post-Agile World", I presented a broad overview of software development fundamentals for both managers and developers. It presented an alternate view of software development contrasted with the trendy Agile Software movement. While Agile focuses on achieving results by removing overhead and keeping managers out of the way, the Geodesic Philosophy presents a way to achieve high quality software through enlightened management and teamwork. The Geodesic Philosophy is outlined in the Geodesic Manifesto. This book is a subset of the previous book, with some new material and extensive edits to make it self-consistent. It focuses on the role of the developer. It covers planning, architecture, quality and the role of the software developer in the Geodesic Philosophy. This book was developed as a companion to an introductory software course to prepare students for the realities of working in a team, with real customers.
