You may think that the title of this book, Beating on the Bible: Bragging on Jesus, is a strange thought. It can appear to be strange until you look at it through a Spiritual lens. The definition of beating is a punishment or an assault in which the victim is hit repeatedly. I believe that it is the preaching prophets’ task to punish Satan and his followers by preaching and teaching the message of soteriology that comes when one surrenders their will to God’s will. Think about it, if we set out every time the word is preached with the goal being to punish Satan, maybe some of us would prepare for this important task in a different manner! That is, it! We are called as believers in Jesus Christ to be and to do great and greater works, which sometime seem strange to the natural eye. Who would have ever thought of preaching as a way of punishing Satan? When one embarks upon the blessing and burden of promulgating the kerygma, we should have one goal in mind, which is to bring others into a relationship and an encounter with Jesus. That should in and of itself provide a sense of pride and satisfaction, because every time that you stand to tell dying men and women that “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.” (Romans 6:23).
