In this modern construction era, structure engineers are finding solutions for seismic performance for high rise buildings. The lateral load resisting systems developed in previous decades had already shown their significance over reliability and functionality of high rise building during many seismic hazards. The ultimate strength and serviceability criterion has been undertaken by performance Based Designs (PBD). In our high rise building, we would like to check flexural yielding in both coupled shear walls and coupling beams. The coupling beam in core shear wall behaves as deformation controlled elements due to excessive axial forces generated in core shear walls, and the link beams (coupling beams) transfers a large amount of shear forces to the joined walls piers. The coupling beams provided is deep spandrels having low span to depth ratio and width equal to the thickness of wall. Sometimes structure engineers provide coupling beams as composite steel – concrete coupling beam or steel link beams to meet the large amount of shear design capacity for the coupling beams. The conventional reinforced coupling beams can be provided with diagonal reinforcement in which diagonal rebar transfers high axial forces which can’t be transferred by longitudinal reinforcement alone. The study reveals that steel link beams in coupled shear wall meets the demand of ductility requirement. The comparative non - linear analysis were performed on different types of coupling beam sections and overall performance is concluded.
