Good morning. And welcome to my world. It is a world of imagination, exaggeration, minimization, heartfelt realities, hot dogs, and even candy bars. It is filled with crazy ideas and stuff that most others have never even thought of, like wompuff and lollygunch (words and a language I invented to fit the essence of what I might be feeling at any given moment). My world is also full of images, many of which are recognizable and some that, quite frankly, probably are not. I invite you to enter into a portion of my world involving images and ideas. Herein you will find laughter, sorrow, remorse, guilt, frustration, anxiety, loneliness, anger, rage, fear, passion, madness, tenderness, laziness, fantasy, stark reality, truth, lies, validity, vulnerability, and so on displayed in pictures alone or pictures with dialogue. Perhaps you may see yourself in some of the depictions. I hope you do, for it’s when things become personal, that they tend to mean the most to us, as human beings.The drawings and cartoons on the following pages are representative of a lifetime of experience (I am currently in my 65th year on this planet). Most of the creations within this volume came between the time I started my training at a university to become a psychologist and now. Thus, many reflect issues prompted from a personal perspective as a psychologist, or issues faced in the capacity of the profession. I began drawing at the age of five as far as I can remember. It has been a passion (some would say obsession or compulsion and I wouldn’t argue with that) in my life from that time on. I have been compelled to create images and ideas in response to life’s experiences in the form of an artistic expression. Many of the pictures herein I consider potentially therapeutic for some individuals. Hence, I have endeavored to use them in my practice as a psychologist for that very purpose. I believe they have served therapeutically for many. Now, I offer them to you, and if not therapeutic, I hope you at least enjoy them.
