This booklet is intended to help students taking "General Chemistry" (usually the first two semesters of college chemistry courses) prepare for there exams. The authors have taught general chemistry for over a decade and watched some students flourish while others fail. The book includes guidance on mathematical preparation, use of calculators, basic elements of chemical calculation and laboratory reports, and leads to a series of techniques that allow students to analyze complex word problems and work through these multi-step problems that often completely bewilder students on tests. We also make suggestions to our colleagues regarding teaching techniques, test preparation and grading.
