The elders on the island Flint grew up on are the last to remember the damage done to their community by the English decades before. Flint has grown up withe the weight of their desire for revenge on his shoulders. He's a bright student and he spots a chance to act out their wishes if he can get to England. Louise is the only member of her small town in the north of England to have the drive to go to university where she develops a major new technology which could set her up as a successful businesswoman in the biotech industry. Both are set to realise their ambitions but things take a change for them both. The author tells a tale of ambition, scientific discovery, history's impact on the present and how ordinary people can set themselves to extraordinary tasks. A well respected career in related scientific research has led her to this gripping and very believable tale.

Val Owen was born in England in 1942. She studied at Liverpool University and was awarded a Ph.D in plant biochemistry in the late 1960s. She subsequently moved to Canada and worked in the medical laboratory sector.Returning to the UK in 1980 she did research into biosensors before getting involved in technology transfer, getting research ideas out into commercial products.Since retirement she has lived on the north coast of Anglesey where she is an active member of the Copper Writers group.
