Ruth's story in the Bible is one with which we can connect. Although describing events taking place in a totally different setting and age from our own, we see that Ruth is just like us. She is having to contend with issues (such as bereavement, lack of resources, needing to relocate, taking on menial work to earn a living) over which she has no control. Also like us, she is having to work things through with little support - only her mother-in-law is with her in the early stages. The intervention of God in Ruth's life is something that she experiences as being 'behind the scenes.' This is key to understanding how Ruth's journey in life is shaped and directed. Sharing with Ruth in this way helps us see that God's work in our lives, although not necessarily obvious or dramatic, can nevertheless be a reality. Questions that conclude each brief chapter, working through the Biblical account, are aimed to help reflect on the various aspects of Ruth's journey as they relate to us.
